Salt-contaminated plaster removed back to brickwork
Plaster contaminated with hygroscopic salts was hacked off back to brickwork so that replastering could take place on a sound, uncontaminated background.
The problem
The wall plaster was contaminated with hygroscopic salts, which attract moisture from the air and keep a wall looking damp — and keep destroying decoration — even after the original moisture source has been controlled.
The approach
The contaminated plaster was removed back to sound brickwork, allowing replastering onto a clean background with an appropriate specification. Removing salt-contaminated plaster is a necessary part of genuine rising damp remediation, not an optional extra.
